TIP FOR COACHES: We are suggesting that you take a new approach to teaching skills. The traditional way is to teach the skill and then teach the tactics, then finally play the game. The new approach is to play the game, then learn the tactics and learn the skills. You do this by playing a modified game (such as 3 on 3 and each team must pass the ball 3 times before scoring). Help the players discover what they need to do to play the game successfully (such as passing and catching). Now teach the skill and practice it. Finally practice the skill in another modified game so they can experience success (such as 3 on 2 or 3 on 1).

TIP FOR PLAYERS: Here is some advise on becoming a great shooter. Since most shots hit the rim, you need to shoot the ball so it lands softly on the rim. The best way to do this is to use your legs for power when shooting the ball. Try various amounts of bend and pushing with your legs to see which amount of force gives you the best arc and the least amount of effort from your arms. Flat shots hit the rim hard so you want a decent arc for the ball to land on the rim softly.
